"Persnickity" means fussy or picky, but Bellingham resident Rebecca Senechal is anything but. Instead, she is rather down-to-earth and practical, even if her choice of occupation was somewhat unconventional. You know the expression "Do what you love and the money will follow?" Well Rebecca is a living, breathing example of this philosophy. Instead of getting a "real job," Rebecca wanted to do something she loved. So she started sewing. The results are her Naugahyde vinyl purses with bold, graphic appliqués and attention-getting colours. Her design is a bag meant to carry knitting materials and needles. It's short, wide and has six pockets on the inside. It's red with white polka dots made of Naugahyde vinyl, which looks like leather. The bags are made from Naugahyde, some upholstery fabric, seatbelt ribbing for straps, nylon thread, an industrial sewing machine and rotary cutter. Senechal, 22, sells her purses at craft shows throughout the region, but recently opened a storefront in Bellingham on Magnolia Street. And she has already moved: The new location is 114 W Magnolia, Suite 109. It is just three doors down, but a bigger and better space. The operation is Persnickity Designs Online Shop, or just plain Persnickity Designs for the bricks-and-mortar location. Join her December 1st for a party with the other merchants in her building, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. There'll be food, music, and lots of special deals.
